Virtual Mission Offshore Wind Energy Poland 2020

Poland and the Netherlands, partners for a sustainable future

Offshore wind energy is at the core of a new European energy system. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) offshore wind can become the main source of power generation in Europe within two decades, with potentially 450 GW of installed offshore wind power in 2050.

To explore the possibilities for a Dutch-Polish cooperation and potential partnerships, parties from the Netherlands are keen to share their knowledge and experiences with the Polish wind sector.

During the Virtual Dutch-Polish Offshore Wind Mission, we will discuss a wide range of common challenges, such as policy and regulatory frameworks, marine space, grids, offshore installation technology, innovation and supply chain. The overall aim of the mission is to have a valuable dialogue on establishing a solid and sustainable framework to develop offshore wind and pursue business opportunities in the benefit of both Dutch and Polish stakeholders.

The challenges of tomorrow

With ambitious plans to contribute to the European goal, Poland and the Netherlands move forward to reinforce their positions to boost offshore wind energy. Both countries are strategically located at the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts with favourable conditions to construct offshore wind farms.

The Netherlands’ leading expertise and impressive track-record in offshore projects is the result of facilitated cooperation between companies, research institutes and the Dutch government. Investing in the Polish offshore wind sector will create economic opportunities for both countries. This collaboration will enhance the already strong international bond between the Dutch and Polish offshore energy sector.

The Netherlands strives to have a 100% climate-neutral energy supply and economy by 2050. To achieve this goal, we want to partner up with energy carriers that can integrate and apply sustainable solar and wind energy. With the completion, construction and tendering of several state-of-the art offshore wind farms, the Netherlands are well under way to reach their goal of 11.5 GW installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 (and 60GW or more in 2050). Poland’s strategic plans aim for the construction of 8-10 GW by 2040 (and 28 GW in 2050), with auctioning expected to take off within the next few years.

Teaming up for maximum impact

During the past decade, Dutch public and private parties have teamed up to design, develop, build, and maintain high quality offshore wind farms all over the world. Dutch companies are renowned for their solid international track record. We are continuously developing innovative solutions for offshore wind farms and achieve considerable cost reductions in close cooperation with the Dutch government.

Whether we develop new food solutions, innovative water technology or circular products, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs) will always be our departing point. The Netherlands believes that achieving the SDGs is not only good for the planet, but also good for individual countries. Working together on the SDGs can generate trade and investment and attract talent from abroad. We believe that inclusive sustainable solutions should benefit society, protect our planet, generate profit and prosperity, and foster worldwide peace and security.

Polish stakeholders interested in offshore wind are welcome to join the digital mission, with high level attendance on governmental level, interesting topical sessions and knowledge exchange, and several matchmaking opportunities to interact with Dutch offshore wind companies.

VIRTUAL DUTCH OFFSHORE WIND MISSION TO POLAND

The Dutch offshore wind supply chain and its sectoral integrated approach focuses on state of the art technology, experience and expertise of major European projects. In this chain, small and large companies work with our world-leading knowledge institutions to constantly develop innovative solutions for offshore wind farms.

Dutch public and private parties have teamed up to design, develop, build, and maintain high quality offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. Together, we are proving that offshore wind is a powerful solution to achieve climate goals cost effectively. Our approach provides greater certainty for project developers, increases investor confidence, and drives down overall costs. It requires dedicated teamwork, collaboration, and innovation across the board to ensure every wind farm has a safe and sustainable future. We are keen to share our knowledge with others.

Let’s work together to utilize the full potential of offshore wind energy and show the world that wind energy works.
